Grandmama's 84th birthday--babies. cake. & drinks. =happy campers! I love going to the south to see my family. We celebrated Grandmama's 48th* birthday with a carrot cake, double chocolate cake and a lemon cheesecake. There was Elvis, dancing, and plenty of food. I wish we lived closer so I could see my wonderful family more but I'm happy that we get to visit often.
*Grandmama requested this be her 48th birthday :) Read more...

I miss my kiwis! As some of you know I love to practice my New Zealand accent on the regular (ahem cousin twins). I was lucky enough to meet some wonderful kiwi friends to chat with and they didn't mind (too much) when I tried to speak kiwi!

The death toll is currently at roughly 800 people and it is expected to rise. This earthquake was the 7th most powerful in history. Although Chile is no stranger to earthquakes Bachelet expects the road to recovery to be at least three to four years. The biggest damages were in rural areas of Chile--most of the infrastructures have been totally destroyed. It has been a very sobering experience..I was lucky enough to be at home in bed with my housemates and none of us were hurt. We had some damage to the plaster on the ceiling and I have pretty big cracks in my wall but our house is made from adobe which is generally pretty strong.
