moving

We are officially moved into our new place! Although we still have our belongings scattered about..everything is coming together. My favorite parts about our little space is that it's cute, bright, and that we have a garden! As many times as I've moved in the past six years I still get excited about the new memories to be made in a new space. Happy Wednesday tout le monde!

This year we all have so many things to be thankful for. I'm so proud and so blessed to have such wonderful people surround me everyday. I'm thankful for my amazing family, my patient and loving boyfriend, and my lovely friends who continue to make me a better person. I love you all very much.

"It’s better to make the decision to stay and love someone. About all I can hope for in life is that the people I love know that I love them. That I’m doing all I can to treat people as well as I can. The noble struggle is to find a way to love someone. To really love someone. To get beyond yourself far enough that you can actually care about another person more than you care about yourself. Once you do that you can start building something beyond your own selfish life".

I'm running a bit behind on sharing our latest adventures..donc here are some photos from Arles. Hugo and I went for a visit to the neighboring town a couple of weeks ago. It was really something special to see where Mr. Gogh lived and painted (and cut off his ear!). We walked around and met a very nice artist who had made some beautiful engravings. He mentioned we should check out the collective exposition "Embrasez vous!" This turned out to be wonderful advice because we both found the exposition to be really captivating. There were modern works of several artists arranged thematically inside a church. The juxtaposition of new and old was really something beautiful.

"Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves like locked rooms and like books that are written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will find them gradually, without noticing it, and live along some distant day into the answer."

anniversaire de hugo

Hugo's birthday is five days after mine and he is a year older. We celebrated with his family by drinking pink champagne and eating his favorite cake (carrot) that I made for him. It was really special and lovely!

Also, my sister requested that I write more on my posts (what a pest!). So, I'm going to note a few observations I've made recently in the next couple of posts.

Avignon

Thursday, September 22, 2011

When we returned from Le Mans, we made a trip to Avignon to pick up Hugo's car from the train and to visit with his cousin Claire. Claire and her boyfriend work in the tourism business in Avignon and I have to say it's one of the most beautiful towns I have visited in France. Avignon is nicknamed the "City of Popes" because of the presence of the popes between 1309 to 1423. The Palais des Papes is a gorgeous structure built right into the surrounding rock. It's really breath-taking.

The town is charming..with winding streets and hidden fountains..it some ways it reminds me of Rome. We ate at the cutest restaurant ever called "Ginette and Marcel". We each ate a delicious tartine--mine was brie with walnuts and honey! mmm mmm! Avignon was beautiful and Claire was a great guide! Can't wait to visit again!

boating in France

Hugo's family has an amazing sailboat and last week we got to sailing. The Mediterranean sea is the bluest thing I have ever seen! It was very beautiful and the water felt great! Warm as toast as my father would say. Hugo's stepdad has an awesome camera that he attaches to a kite to take pictures from above. On the way home we got some calamari and pizzas. It was a perfect day! Ps. They even let me steer the boat! :)

(ready) Sète (go)

Monday, September 19, 2011

Hugo took me to neighboring city--Sète for my birthday. It was wonderful. We walked around the seaside town--browsed galleries, ate awesome seafood specialities with white wine and climbed the giant hill of Mont St. Clair for gorgeous views at the top. There isn't a better way to start my twenty-fourth year of life!

Last week we went to Le Mans where Hugo's university is located. He gave his final presentation for his masters and he did really well! I'm so proud of him. Le Mans is a cute town outside of Paris. It was a little cold but really nice. It was really fun to meet all of Hugo's friends and to see what his life was like at the university. We went to the market and bought some amazing goat cheese and rillettes (a speciality that's kind of like pork pate). They were both of course super good! We also got the chance to stay with one of his good friends who lives in the countryside and we played with her horses and ate fresh muscat grapes from her garden. It was really dreamy. We also went to a small music festival which was very cute. It was a really great trip! More photos from our brief stops in Paris and Avignon and from my birthday to come!
